Best RV tour is finally back and coming to NJ packed with new 2012 gear. The RV is scheduled to arrive on October 2nd and stay for 2 days. Green Hat Kiteboarding be setting up DEMO events on the 2nd and 3rd. Location and other details to be determined based on the forecast.

I think the word "performance" is probably the most overused term in our sport. It kind of stopped making sense to me because I hear it used in so many different ways.

The way I've always understood the meaning of "performance" is that higher performance kites turn faster, with more consistent pull through the turn, and more direct connection to the wind. C kites are still the highest performance kites on the market. On a C kite, lines are connected directly to the kite, so you feel one with the wind, much more so than on anything bridled. You feel every gust and every lull as it happens, controlling it is a lot more involved and you can't relax; but if you know what to do, you can use it to your advantage and have more fun. It's sort of like the difference between driving manual and stick shift. If you know what you're doing , you feel much more in control with a stick shift , and it can be more fun to drive... unless you're stuck in traffic (or very gusty conditions )..

Because around here we have to deal with gusty conditions often, C kites are definitely not for everyone. Next step down the performance ladder , are the bridled C-shaped kites.. like Best Nemi, Naish Park, Slingshot RPM, or Ozone C4.. I think these kites are an excellent compromise for someone trying to get a bit more performance , but still have an all-around kite that will work well in all conditions. Regular flat , bridled kites (also called bow kites) will have less performance , but they definitely have their advantages in certain conditions and for certain usage. In general, Delta kites are probably the last on the performance ladder. But they are great for learning and waves (in smaller sizes).

Tug Hill is a premier snowkiting destination, located on a Plateau by Lake Ontario - 4 to 6 hour drive from NJ/NYC. Due to the lake effect, this area gets enormous amount of snow (average 400 inches per season) as well as frequent and steady winds.

Location: House is located right on the North Pond Bay, which is about 1 mile wide by 4 miles long and is separated from Lake Ontario only by a sand bar. Unlike Lake Ontario, North Pond freezes , so we can launch right from our back yard during prevalent NW winds. The house is about 25-30 minute drive to the Tug Hill snowkiting fields.
